Sony’s Betacam family introduced the MPEG IMX, a standard definition digital format, in 2001, establishing a competitor against the mid-level DVCPRO 50 offered by Panasonic. Remaining consistent with it’s Beta predecessors, the MPEG IMX would run a ½” magnetic tape across dual reel transport and was available in two different sizes. The Small IMX would offer a 60 minute runtime capacity, and tripling it to 184 minutes in the Large counterpart.

The cassette is easily identifiable due to its unique green housing, which was part of Sony’s colour coding initiative for it’s Beta line.
